‘My way or the Highway’ - Arjuna

We were playing the West Indies in Kanpur and I was batting with Jega (Sridharan Jeganthan). We had to score 20 odd runs to win and I told Jega to get a single and give me the strike. He did the complete opposite by playing out a maiden over. In the end, I had no option but to run out Jega as I needed the strike. It was a close game and the West Indies had a good side. We had some really good players those days. Guys like Roy (Dias) who played in an era where he hardly had any opportunities. That’s the same case with players like Ranjan (Madugalle), Amal (Silva), Ashantha (de Mel), Rumesh (Rantayake) and John (Vinothan). They all could have done well, but sadly, they played in the wrong era and didn’t get opportunities.
