Toss Sri Lanka chose to bat v India
Mahela Jayawardene won the toss in a game Sri Lanka would be anxious to win, and chose to bat on the same Adelaide pitch that hosted Sunday's game between Australia and India. Jayawardene singled out batting failures for his team's early woes in the CB series - Sri Lanka are without points after two games, while both India and Australia have registered two wins apiece from three matches.
The interesting team changes came from the Indian side; Virender Sehwag sustained a back spasm forcing India to continue their sequence of rotating three openers. Sachin Tendulkar returned to the XI and will open the innings with Gautam Gambhir, who made a couple of controversial comments on the team combination following the win against Australia. Tendulkar's association with Gambhir will be closely watched. Zaheer Khan was also benched on account of a calf strain, which gave Irfan Pathan his first game of the tour.
Having gone into their first game against India without any specialist spinners, Sri Lanka effected a change of plans for the slower Adelaide strip. Left-arm spinner Rangana Herath came into the XI for Dhammika Prasad who was out with a niggle. This meant Sri Lanka had two specialist spinners in the side, in addition to Tiilakaratne Dilshan's part-time fare. The out-of-form Lahiru Thirimanne made way for allrounder Thisara Perera.
