Sehwag and Zaheer return, Sri Lanka bat

Toss Sri Lanka chose to bat v India

Mahela Jayawardene called right on his return to Sri Lankan captaincy, and chose to bat first on a WACA strip with a patchy covering of grass. Jayawardene expected it to be a very good batting wicket, but loaded his team with four quicks in an attempt to exploit the traditional bounce and pace at Perth.

India made two changes to the line-up that was found out against Australia in the opening game. One change was along expected lines, with the experienced openers continuing the rotation policy in order to give the inexperienced middle order an extended run. Gautam Gambhir sat out to accommodate Virender Sehwag. The other change was partially forced, with Zaheer Khan coming in for the injured Rahul Sharma, but signs were that India would have added to their pace options in any case.

India: 1 Virender Sehwag, 2 Sachin Tendulkar, 3 Virat Kohli, 4 Rohit Sharma, 5 Suresh Raina, 6 MS Dhoni (capt & wk), 7 Ravindra Jadeja, 8 R Ashwin, 9 Vinay Kumar, 10 Praveen Kumar, 11 Zaheer Khan

Sri Lanka: 1 Tillakaratne Dilshan, 2 Upul Tharanga, 3 Kumar Sangakkara (wk), 4 Mahela Jayawardene, 5 Dinesh Chandimal, 6 Angelo Mathews, 7 Lahiru Thirimanne, 8 Thisara Perera, 9 Nuwan Kulasekara, 10 Lasith Malinga, 11 Dhammika Prasad
