Australia regained their captain Michael Clarke for the first final against Sri Lanka and his opening act was to win the toss and bat at the Gabba. Peter Forrest, who has had an impressive debut series but made single-figure scores in his past two innings, was the batsman who made way for the returning Clarke.

Australia made one other change, with Brett Lee brought back in at the expense of Clint McKay. The Australians will again open with Matthew Wade and David Warner, with Shane Watson settling in to his new position at first drop.

Sri Lanka made three changes from the side that won Friday's thrilling encounter at the MCG, two of them forced by injuries. Thisara Perera has flown home due to a back injury and Angelo Mathews did not recover from his calf injury as well as Sri Lanka had hoped, while the offspinner Sachithra Senanayake was left out.

Upul Tharanga was named at No.6, having struggled earlier in the series when he was opening, and Farveez Maharoof was brought back after recovering from a back problem. There was also a recall for the fast bowler Dhammika Prasad, who has not played since Sri Lanka's first two matches of the tournament.

The game was set to begin under overcast skies but Clarke believed the hot weather would mean the ball would swing for most of the match. There was also some rain forecast for later in the day, so Duckworth-Lewis could come in to calculations.

Australia 1 David Warner, 2 Matthew Wade (wk), 3 Shane Watson, 4 Michael Clarke (capt), 5 Michael Hussey, 6 David Hussey, 7 Daniel Christian, 8 Brett Lee, 9 James Pattinson, 10 Xavier Doherty, 11 Ben Hilfenhaus.

Sri Lanka 1 Mahela Jayawardene (capt), 2 Tillakaratne Dilshan, 3 Kumar Sangakkara (wk), 4 Dinesh Chandimal, 5 Lahiru Thirimanne, 6 Upul Tharanga, 7 Farveez Maharoof, 8 Nuwan Kulasekara, 9 Dhammika Prasad, 10 Lasith Malinga, 11 Rangana Herath.
