Toss Pakistan chose to bowl v India
|
There were fears that the first ODI would be a non-starter following a
spell of wet weather over the weekend, but the rain stayed away on
Sunday morning. A damp pitch delayed the toss by an hour, and when
Misbah-ul-Haq won it, he decided to bowl first, giving his bowlers the
chance to exploit the morning moisture on the surface. The pitch had a
decent covering of grass and the overcast conditions made the decision
at the toss straightforward. Despite the delay, there was no reduction
in the number of overs.
Pakistan picked their experienced men for this game, bringing in Younis
Khan, Umar Gul and Shoaib Malik and leaving out Umar Akmal. Malik and
the left-arm seamer Mohammad Irfan were belatedly retained after the
T20s and both found a place in the line-up. Azhar Ali, the top-order
batsman, and Junaid Khan, the left-arm fast bowler, were also included.
India in contrast made just one change from their T20 lineup, bringing
in Virender Sehwag for Ajinkya Rahane. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, the right-arm
seamer, made his ODI debut after an impressive spell of 3 for 9 in the
opening T20 in Bangalore.
India: 1 Gautam Gambhir, 2 Virender Sehwag, 3 Virat Kohli, 4
Yuvraj Singh, 5 Suresh Raina, 6 Rohit Sharma, 7 MS Dhoni (capt. &
wk), 8 R Ashwin, 9 Bhuvneshwar Kumar, 10 Ishant Sharma, 11 Ashok Dinda
Pakistan: 1 Nasir Jamshed, 2 Mohammad Hafeez, 3 Azhar Ali, 4
Misbah-ul-Haq (capt.), 5 Younis Khan, 6 Shoaib Malik, 7 Kamran Akmal
(wk), 8 Umar Gul, 9 Saeed Ajmal, 10 Junaid Khan, 11 Mohammad Irfan
